Four diesel-powered vehicles placed among the Top 10 fuel economy leaders, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA.) Beginning in 2008, any car or SUV that cannot meet a fuel efficiency standard of 30 miles per gallon will have to pay a guzzler tax of $1,000 per year.
