See the homes of the Stars in Nashville, horse shows, museum, Jack Daniel’s distillery, and the charming old town of Lynchburg.
Starting in Nashville, head out U.S. 41 for 32 miles to Murfeesboro, then 24 miles south on U.S. 231 to Shelbyville, southeast on Route 82 for 14 miles to Route 55, and 3 miles southwest to Lynchburg. This looks like a short drive, but there is enough to see and do to take up at least a whole day.
You can spend a few days in Nashville seeing the sights, but city sights are not what this tour is all about. We suggest that you go to the nearest souvenir store and buy a “Homes of the Stars” map and a good “Nashville and Vicinity” map. Drive around Nashville and discover the homes of your favorites. It’s a kick to see the homes of all the country music stars with pink statues, guitar-shaped pools, and some surprisingly plain middle-class houses.
On the way to Murfeesboro, be sure to stop at the Stones River Battlefield and the Sam Davis Home. Shelbyville is the home of the Tennessee Walking Horse with frequent horse shows and a museum.
In Lynchburg, step back to the early-1900s, where town folk draw together around the potbelly stove at the hardware store and old Jack Daniel made his sour mash whisky. The tour of the distillery is well performed and utterly fascinating, but no tasting unless you plan on taking it back home. Even now, Lynchburg is dry.
