Enjoy a gorgeous drive, wildlife, great fishing, see a 830-foot deep gorge, and 301-foot-high Kinzua Rail Viaduct.
Part of the Grand Army of the Republic Highway, this trip takes about 5 hours. Depart from the town of Wellsboro and drive west 12 miles to Ansonia. A left turn on Colton Road takes you to Pine Creek Gorge, the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, and to Colton Point State Park. The park offers vistas of the 830-foot deep ravine.
Back on Route Six, follow Pine Creek through the town of Galeton all the way to the Pennsylvania
Lumber Museum. Keep to the Allegheny River for about 35 miles to the town of Smithport, where you pick up Marvin Creek. As you head toward Mount Jewett, a turnoff brings you to the 301-foot-high Kinzua Viaduct. In 1882, this was the highest railroad viaduct in the world. After this road, you will enter the 250,000-acre Allegheny National Forest. Here you can view part of the 3,200-mile North Country National Scenic Trail, which is being built from New York to North Dakota. The drive finishes as you enter the town of Warren. This is a gorgeous drive with lots of great fishing and natural wildlife.
