When fantasy collides head-on with reality something’s got to give, and, unfortunately, reality usually wins out. Classic car ChevelleSo it was with the famous Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454. In this case, the fantasy was having a National Hot Rod Association Pro Stocker virtually straight out of the box from your local Chevy dealer. The reality was  consumer concern for fuel economy, tightening exhaust emission controls, and the costliness of small production runs. These days, with General Motors being kicked around by Ford Motor Company and the Japanese brands like Toyota and Honda, it is hard to remember Classic car Chevelle 396a time when GM’s share of the total U.S. automotive market stood at a whopping 60 percent. Now,  some 40 years have passed since those halcyon days for the biggest automobile maker on the globe–the go-go Sixties, rock music,  the decade of youth,  and the Vietnam War.
